Active Learner’s, located in Norton, MA, has been helping children from the surrounding communities prepare for Kindergarten since 1996. Director and Founder Marge Pond designed a program that offers an informal environment specifically organized to meet both individual and group goals.

While all children play, their play is not all the same. There are different kinds of play, each one contributing something different to a child’s success. Functional play, constructive play, games with rules and dramatic play, help a child learn to explore and examine the function and properties of objects and materials in their environment. They examine how things feel, taste, smell, sound, and what they do. When children are encouraged to explore and discover, their curiosity is heightened and they are more highly motivated. To aid in satisfying the endless curiosity of children, Active Learner’s playground is equipped with a 24x18 sandbox, which serves as an extension of classroom learning without limitations. In fact, the sandbox is large enough that all of the children in a class can be in it at any given moment. Also, an enclosed frog and fish pond helps children use their observational skills. Finally, a paved tricycle track helps children develop gross motor skills as they play.

Parents of enrolled children often wish to see and hear how their child is doing at preschool first-hand. In our private viewing room, parents can see and hear their children at any time without the child knowing of their presence.

Since the opening of the school, Active Learner’s has been licensed by the DEEC (Department of Early Education and Care).
